What Is Selank?
Selank is a small protein chain that is used to address anxiety and possibly improve learning. The Russian Academy of Sciences, particularly the Institute of Molecular Genetics, developed Selank. It is obtained by combining tuftsin with a stabilising sequence. Tuftsin occurs naturally in the body and makes up the core of a particular antibody.
What Are Selank Benefits?
- GABA-LIKE EFFECTS ON NEUROTRANSMITTERS – Many studies on Selank are similar to anti-anxiety meds like GABA. Rat studies have shown that 84 genes are signalled to GABA. Selank affects 7 of them heavily, and 45 others change in some way once Selank is administered. Overall, Selank affects 52 genes in correlation with the 84 GABA connections.
- SUPPRESS GENE RESPONSIBLE FOR DEPRESSION – Testing in rats showed that Selank regulates the expression of 34 genes in the inflammatory response. These genes affect chemokines, cytokines, and Receptors for both. Selank has been found to alter the expression of the BcI ( a gene that is involved with the immune system’s development)
- INCREASE MEMORY & LEARNING CAPABILITY – Anxiety affects mental health and learning tremendously. Selank has been shown to improve cognition directly. Research in rats showed Selank Boosts Memory, Trace Stability and Memory Storage Process. This was shown regardless of whether the rats were healthy or had anxiety.
- LOWER PAIN – Selank reduces the degradation of Enkephalins by inhibiting the enzymes found in blood that break them down. Enkephalins(natural peptides that bind to opioid receptors). This helps blunt pain severity.
How Does Selank Work?
Selank works by stabilising the enkephalins in the blood. Enkephalins are the body’s natural peptides that reduce stress. Selank binds to the GABA receptors, which is why it produces a sedative effect. Researchers found that Selank increases activity in inhibitory neurons that rely on GABA, resulting in less brain activity in lab mice.
Researchers also found that Selank increases BDNF, which supports learning and memory. The change in brain chemicals initiated by Selank, such as serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine, enhances motivation, focus, and even pleasure.
Selank also has side effects, and the most common is fatigue. However, this substance should be used only for testing or research.
